I had no idea how to write about this book. Yes, I learned many things from it. It helped me deal with my instant thoughts. It reminded me to stay positive; especially now, during a very crucial time in my life. So instead of writing a review, I felt like writing a letter. But to whom? Well… to my younger self. 🙂
Dear Younger me,
You like to read books now. In the future, you’ll read all kinds such as novels, self-help, philosophy, everything. One day, you will come across a small book called The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It’s short, but it will stay in your mind for a long time.
Here are the lessons that you’ll learn:
1. Be impeccable with your word.
Your words have power. Be kind to others, but also to yourself. What you say inside your head matters the most.
2. Don’t take anything personally.
Not everything people say is about you. Sometimes they are just dealing with their own pain. Don’t carry their anger like it’s yours.
3. Don’t make assumptions.
You won’t always know what others think — and that’s okay. It’s better to ask than to imagine the worst.
4. Always do your best.
You don’t need to be perfect. Just try your best with what you have. Some days will be hard, and that’s normal.
This little book won’t solve everything, but it will help you live more peacefully. You’ll grow. You’ll make mistakes. But you’ll keep learning. 🙂
With love,
Your Future Self
